Door County Arrest History
Four local law enforcement departments can create arrest records: the Door County Sheriff's Office, Sturgeon Bay Police Department, Gibraltar Police Department, and Washington Island Police Department. Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin DNR conservation wardens, and other authorized state or federal officers may also arrest within the peninsula. The event location does not by itself identify the custodian. A marine, park, snowmobile, or highway incident may belong to the sheriff, DNR, or State Patrol instead of the nearest town or village.
Door County Sheriff has primary jurisdiction in eleven unincorporated towns and all four villages. Sturgeon Bay Police keeps its own city incident and arrest reports, even when Door County Jail later completes the booking. A useful arrest history therefore follows the creating agency, the jail custody record, any filed court case, and the Wisconsin repository response. An arrest or booking proves custody occurred, not that a person was convicted.
Door County Arrest Agency Routes
Ask which badge or agency name appears on the citation, probable-cause paper, booking entry, or court complaint. That name controls where to seek the event narrative. Door County Jail can confirm custody and provide a booking record, but it cannot replace a Sturgeon Bay police report or a DNR warden's file.

This routing is vital in Door County because shoreline, islands, parks, snowmobile routes, and seasonal traffic draw multi-agency responses. Request records from the creator rather than sending one broad request to the county clerk.
Looking Up Door County Arrests
Door County has no verified public booking roster or arrest blotter. Begin with current custody, then work outward to agency, court, and state records. Names may be entered late or may not match across systems, so use dates, middle names, case numbers, and agency identifiers whenever they are public.
- Search Wisconsin VINE by name and state for custody status and notification options. Call Door County Jail at 920-746-5652 when the arrest is very recent or the person is not found.
- Identify the arresting agency and ask its records unit for the incident or arrest report. Ask the jail separately for a booking sheet or custody record.
- Search WCCA for a Door County CF, CM, or CT case. A new arrest may not yet have a filed complaint, and an arrest charge can change before filing.
- Use WORCS for a Wisconsin CIB name-based criminal-history response. For a high-confidence review of one's own record, follow CIB's fingerprint-supported review process.
- Submit a focused Wisconsin Public Records Law request when online tools do not supply the document. Include the event date, location, agency case number, and exact record sought.

VINE may show custody status, facility, an offender identifier, and alert signup, but its data can lag a fresh Door County jail intake.
Door County Jail Intake Trail
Door County Jail creates a new record when a person enters custody. Intake can include identity checks, property inventory, screening, fingerprints, a booking photograph, the arrest basis, initial charges, classification, and review of other holds. Fingerprint-supported arrest data can move to the Wisconsin DOJ Crime Information Bureau. The District Attorney later decides what complaint, if any, to file.
The direct-supervision jail has 143 beds and an operational capacity of 109. Its 2025 report lists 859 bookings, an average daily population of 64, and an average stay of 16 days. Those bookings include new offenses, probation holds, sentence service, safekeepers, warrants, and court writs. Thus a booking total is not a count of new criminal accusations.
Jail data captures custody at one stage. Court dates are more reliably confirmed through WCCA, while later state prison or supervision status belongs in the Wisconsin DOC locator.
Inside a Door County Arrest Record
An incident report and booking record overlap, yet neither is a full court case. The agency report can contain the event time and place, probable-cause narrative, witnesses, evidence, arrest basis, and transport. The jail file focuses on intake, holds, bond, and release. Public copies may omit juvenile, victim, medical, security, identity, or active-investigation details.

Requesting Door County Booking Records
The Door County Sheriff records page is the formal path for sheriff incident, arrest, dispatch, booking, jail, photo, audio, and video records. Its online public records form asks for the requester's contact details, an incident date when known, location, incident or accident type, optional report number, a description of the records, signature, and agreement.
Be exact. Ask for a booking sheet, arrest report, dispatch log, 911 audio, or named media rather than all records about a person. Email delivery of incident reports is free. Paper costs $0.15 per page. Photos, 911 audio, Axon media, and jail recordings on CD or DVD cost $0.25; USB media is charged at actual cost. A location charge applies only when location work alone reaches $50, and an estimate of $5 or more prompts prepayment.

The county states a ten-working-day service goal, but Wisconsin law requires response as soon as practicable and without delay.
Booking Logs and Recent Arrests
Door County does not publish a verified open arrest log that can be browsed like WCCA. Do not replace that missing government tool with a commercial mugshot page. For a recent arrest, call the jail, search VINE, check WCCA for a filed case, and send focused requests to both the arresting agency and jail when copies are needed.
Absence from VINE or WCCA proves little by itself. Intake can precede a VINE update. Prosecutor review can precede a filed court complaint. A person can also be released before a reader searches. Conversely, an old custody result or docket event may no longer be current. Confirm present custody through the jail and the case's present status through the clerk.
Door County Arrest Bond Records
Wisconsin uses cash and signature bonds. A cash bond requires the ordered sum to be deposited. A signature bond relies on a signed promise and listed release terms without up-front cash. Only the issuing court can state or change the controlling conditions. A jail or payment record may show the amount paid, but it should be checked against the current court docket.

Door County Custody Systems Disagree
VINE, WCCA, WORCS, and the Wisconsin DOC locator describe different stages. VINE focuses on custody and notification. WCCA begins when court staff open a filed circuit case. WORCS searches Wisconsin CIB's person-based repository, which relies heavily on fingerprint-supported arrest cycles and reported outcomes. DOC's locator covers state prison custody and community supervision, not every Door County jail stay.
A new Door County arrest may appear first at the jail, later in VINE, then in WCCA after a complaint is filed. CIB reporting can follow its own schedule. Names and dates can also produce false or missed matches. For one's own record, compare the arresting agency report, jail record, WCCA disposition, and CIB response. The Wisconsin Crime Information Bureau explains its repository role; use fingerprints through CIB when identity certainty or correction is the issue.
Arrests Are Not Convictions
An arrest records an officer's custody decision based on a warrant or probable cause. A conviction is a court judgment of guilt after a plea or verdict. The Door County District Attorney may decline charges, file different counts, or dismiss a count later. A case can also end in acquittal. Read the final disposition for each charge instead of turning a booking into an assumed outcome.

Note: An arrest is not proof of guilt, and a Door County booking can end without any criminal conviction.
Wis. Stat. ยง 165.84 provides a CIB removal request in qualifying cases when a person was released without charge or cleared through court proceedings. It is not automatic and requires fingerprint identity verification. That state repository route does not erase every local police or prosecutor copy. For filed outcomes, use the Door County criminal court case record and ask the clerk for a certified disposition when needed.
