Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that search. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be retained so a reply can be made. It stays within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server may receive basic technical details about the visit:
- Page-view timestamps
- Browser name and version
- Device type and operating system
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- The referring site, when available
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic information, such as popular pages and common exit points. A browser can be set to reject cookies, although parts of the site may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a query to the selected search partner
- Finding and correcting technical faults
- Maintaining site availability and performance
- Understanding which pages are useful or need revision
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Door County Criminal History does not keep, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to the Door County Sheriff's Office, Circuit Court, Wisconsin DOJ Crime Information Bureau, and Wisconsin Public Sex Offender Registry. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or criminal-record files about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted to a tool is governed by that provider's privacy policy. Each provider sets its own retention and sharing terms, which we do not control. Read those terms before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Door County offices, Wisconsin agencies, court portals, legal-aid resources, and outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal details.
Some advertising partners may track activity across websites to select ads. That process occurs on the partner's system.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may still be available to:
- Analytics vendors that measure traffic and performance
- Search providers that process a submitted query
- Advertising networks that serve ads on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Standard safeguards are used for collected data, but no internet service is completely secure. Reasonable steps reduce risk; they cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If information from a minor is identified, it will be removed.
Your Data Rights
Rights can depend on the visitor's location and applicable law. Wisconsin consumer protections include Wis. Stat. § 100.18, while official Door County agency records are governed separately by the Wisconsin Public Records Law, Wis. Stat. §§ 19.31-19.39, and criminal-identification dissemination rules such as Wis. Stat. § 165.83. Subject to the law that applies, a visitor may:
- Object to certain types of processing
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Ask for access to information held about the visitor
- Seek deletion when applicable law provides that option
